Max Reger
The productivity of Max Reger had no limits. Next to a great number of organ works, he wrote a considerable number of paraphrases, among which are no less than 228 paraphrases of works of Bach.
After a tour in Holland he wrote the work on Valerius' hymn "Wilt heden nu treden voor God den Heere" (Wir treten zum Beten), a so-called "freie Bearbeitung" (free paraphrase) in the form of four harmonisations, which were published by Breitkopf & Härtel in the year in which he died.
