Gerard Bunk

Gerard Bunk was born in Rotterdam.
There, he studied piano with A.B. Verhey and organ with J.H. Besselaar, who was the organist of the Sint Laurenskerk.
After having studied piano in Hamburg for one year, Bunk was appointed at the conservatory of Bielefeld as a teacher of piano and theory in 1907.

In 1910 he played the Walcker organ with its 107 voices in the St. Reinoldikirche in Dortmund for the first time. At this occasion he came to know Max Reger.
From 1925 until his death, he worked as a cantor organist in this church. Bunk composed a great number of organ works and many of them are evocative pieces.

From the 50 kurze Choral-improvisationen für Orgel zum kirchlichen Gebrauch, "aus der Praxis heraus entstanden", he only completed 37 improvisations, which have all remained unpublished.
